You-i Lab works with and for youth, to develop local solutions to problems endured by young people and children, through the use of technology and open innovation methodologies. The lab, currently under the IPICYT management, is staffed with a multidisciplinary team of national and international experts in computer science, applied statistics, information technology, re-engineering, sociology, psychology, visual arts, communications, social work, and journalism.
The overall goal of the You-i Lab is to engage and empower youth, through the use of ICTs and open innovation methodologies, so they can become agents of social change in their communities. The You-i Lab will help youth to create local networks of leaders, who can help their communities solve their problems through collective action.

In order to achieve this goal, the You-i Lab will bring together a multidisciplinary team of national and international experts from academia, government, NGOs, the private sector, and interested faculty and students at the IPICYT-and other academic institutions. Our multidisciplinary team works with youth and for youth, in co-designing action-research methodologies and co-developing concrete data-driven projects and programs of social impact that benefit populations of young people and children in México. Projects are lead by teams of student volunteers working within You-i Lab’s Innovation Cores.

The action-research work at the You-i Lab intertwine two areas of developmental research:

(1) community Engagement, which involves working together with young people to co-develop creative ideas to address the problems of children, adolescents and youth in Mexico.

(2) An Operations research, which involves working with strategic partners to define a suitable approach to collect quantifiable data and distill information in a specific context, in order to reveal the roots of problems, and allow youth participants, coached by the multidisciplinary team of experts, to make concrete recommendations on the steps to be taken to address these problems. You-i Lab also supports the Ce Mobili initiative.
